Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson and Naomi Scott are in the running to star in the Han Solo movie.
The 27-year-old model, ‘Creed’ actress and Power Rangers newcomer were called in for screen tests in London this week by Disney and Lucasfilm to try out for the highly sought after female lead in the ‘Star Wars’ spin-off film, according to Variety.
The successful candidate will appear in the as-yet-untitled project opposite Alden Ehrenreich, who beat off stiff competition to take on the role of the young space smuggler that Harrison Ford originally played.
The female character the trio are battling to portray is a closely guarded secret, however, producers will need to decide who they cast this side of Christmas as production is due to kick off next year.
They’re also searching for an actor to play the role of Han’s friend Lando Calrissian – originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy – and ‘Atlanta’ star Donald Glover is the favourite to nab the role in the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed movie.
Few story details have been revealed about exactly what events in Han Solo’s life prior to his first appearance on screen in ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ in 1977 will be told, but the space smuggler will be reunited with his Millennium Falcon co-pilot Chewbacca on screen.
Meanwhile, Kravitz – who is the daughter of rock star Lenny Kravitz – will next be seen in ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ alongside the likes of Eddie Redmayne and Colin Farrell.
The Warner Bros. Pictures film is a spin-off of the Harry Potter franchise and the model-turned-actress will have a relatively small part in the feature, but she could return for the sequel, which the studio has already scheduled in for a November 2018 release.
Kravitz has built up a strong presence on screen over the past few years with parts in high-profile movies like ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past, ‘Dope’ and ‘Mad Max’.
