Zara Larsson: Female pop stars can ‘never win’

Zara Larsson thinks female pop stars can "never win".
The ‘Lush Life’ hitmaker believes men get away with more "bad things" than women do and has slammed these double standards.
She said: "Just those typical ‘bad’ ones, ‘bad girls’ doing ‘bad things’, when an equal number of men are doing the same things. Look at all those rock stars from way back!
"Female pop stars can never win, especially when it comes to being sexy, or not sexy, and whether you are owning this, or being owned. You know, looking at Beyoncé, she is owning her sexuality, especially in Lemonade. But it’s also like, when she and Jay Z are performing together, why aren’t you in a bathing suit, Jay?"
And the 19-year-old singer still sticks by her comment that she is a "man hater" but insists she is referring to male oppression rather than individual men.
She added: "I love men, and that’s the problem. Women in general, or the world, love men and everything they do, and the world hates women.
"But if I hate men, just let me hate them and let me be! You know what I mean? I’m not mean to them."
And Zara looks up to the likes of Beyonce and Rihanna.
She told The Sunday Times’ Culture magazine: "My goal is just to do it the RiRi way, to release an album a year, stay relevant."
Meanwhile, Zara previously admitted she doesn’t think Taylor Swift is opinionated enough.
She said: "I think it’s lame to hate on Taylor. I saw people hating on her for talking about the Women’s March and not going. I feel like, yeah, totally, that sucks – you’ve got to put your money where your mouth is. But it’s not really a problem to me.
"Women are being raped, beaten up, killed. LGBTQ people are being killed for loving who they want to love. And Muslims can’t get into America because they’re Muslims. There are so many problems going on in the world. Is it really worth focusing on Taylor Swift and if she’s a real feminist or not?
"I would like her feminism to be a little bit more inclusive – more intersectional. Because she does have a lot of followers and can make a difference. She’s being very nice on every subject, because I feel like she doesn’t want to step on anyone’s toes.
"She could have Trump supporters who are her fans, and maybe she doesn’t want to offend them. She’s like, ‘Yeah, feminism!’ but then does it actually say anything, maybe? As long as her intentions are good."
