X-Files gets February return date

‘The X-Files’ will return to UK screens on February 8.

The popular sci-fi TV series – which originally ran from 1993 until 2002 – will air on Channel 5 at 9pm as FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder – played by David Duchovny – and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) reunite for a six-part series, 14 years after they were last seen on British soil.

But it doesn’t look set to be good news for Mulder and Scully as creator Chris Carter previously teased their "relationship is on the rocks" at the beginning of the latest installment of the programme, entitled ‘My Struggle’.

The broadcaster has also revealed details of the first episode, in which Mulder and Scully will be approached by conspiracy theorist Tad O’Malley (Joel McHale), who thinks he has uncovered a significant government conspiracy.

O’Malley gets help from FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) to try to enlist the help of Mulder and Scully, who are no longer working for the FBI.

But Mulder is in for a shock in the episode as the pair meet possible alien abductee Sveta (Annet Mahendru), whose surprising information changes everything he has ever believed about aliens and the government’s participation in covering them up.

Meanwhile, fans look set to be in for a treat in one episode as David, 55, recently revealed his alter-ego gets naked.

When asked about nudity in ‘The X-Files’, he said: "There’s a little bit … There’s a scene where I’m somewhat disrobed, but it’s played for humour."
