World of Sport Wrestling heading to ITV each week

‘World of Sport Wrestling’ is returning as a weekly show on ITV for the first time in over 30 years.
Following the success of the 2016 New Year’s Eve special, which attracted over a million viewers, ITV has decided to commission a 10-part series featuring some of the UK’s top grapplers.
The shows will be recorded in front of a live audience at studios in Norwich with the competitors battling for the coveted WOS Wrestling Championship belt and the series will also feature backstage interviews and action from the roster.
Tom McLennan – Creative Director of ITV Studios Entertainment – said: "There is a massive indie wrestling scene in the UK and a strong nostalgia for the wrestling shows of our youth. ‘WOS Wrestling’ will combine the best of the past with incredible talent available today to make a fun, exciting and thrilling show that the whole family can enjoy."
Fans can apply for tickets to be in the crowd for the tapings which will take place on Thursday May 10th, Friday May 11th and Saturday May 12th.
Although the roster has not yet been confirmed the wrestlers who competed on the New Year’s Eve special included Grado, El Ligero ‘The East End Butcher’ Sha Samuels and Dave Mastiff, whilst WWE Hall of Fame star Jim ‘JR’ Ross joined Alex Shane on commentary.
The new ‘World of Sport Wrestling’ series is rumoured to be going to air in a teatime slot at around 5pm on Saturdays.
‘World of Sport’ was originally a sporting compilation show that was broadcast by ITV from January 1965 until September 1985 in competition with the BBC’s ‘Grandstand’ programme.
It featured a variety of sports with wrestling being showcased prominently every week and the British public fell in love with the larger than life characters such as Rollerball Rocco, Mick McManus and Kendo Nagasaki and were gripped by the long-running feud between fan favourite Big Daddy and the villainous Giant Haystacks, making the behemoth pair household names.
