Will Ferrell has quit new film ‘Captain Dad’ just days before shooting is schedule to start.
The 49-year-old actor had been cast to play lead character Rich Peelman in the comedy romp about a family that go on vacation to Colombia with disastrous consequences, however, he has decided to drop out of the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Filming was due to begin in the South American country next Monday (26.09.16) but now Ferrell is out studio Protagonist Pictures is desperately looking for a replacement.
No official reason for Ferrell’s departure is yet to be given.
Some cast and crew are already in Colombia and are awaiting news on what is happening to the shooting schedule.
‘Superbad’ star Michael Cera and ‘Capote’ actress Catherine Keener are to star in the movie which is being directed by Sebastian Silva – who has also penned the screenplay.
Following Ferrell’s exit, the producers are now working as quickly as possible to fill his role and intend to move forward with production as soon as possible.
The ‘Anchorman’ star’s departure from ‘Captain Dad’ is the second big screen project he has walked away from in 2016.
Ferrell had been cast to portray late US President Ronald Reagan in ‘Reagan’ with the storyline focusing on the start of the politician’s battle with Alzheimer’s during his second presidential term in office.
In the plot an intern is tasked with convincing the Commander-In-Chief that he is an actor playing the American President in a movie.
However, following complaints from Reagan’s family he backed out of the movie out of respect for them.
Ferrell is signed up Sherlock Holmes-inspired comedy ‘Holmes & Watson’ for which he will be reunited with John C. Reilly again.
Ferrell is to play Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional detective, with Reilly portraying his faithful right hand man Dr. John Watson.
