Wendi Peters joins Footballers’ Wives musical

Wendi Peters has joined the cast of the ‘Footballers’ Wives’ musical.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress will take on the role of nurse Jeanette Dunkley in the stage version of the ITV drama show, which ran from 2002 to 2006.
The ex-cobbles star – who portrayed Cilla Battersby-Brown on the ITV soap from 2003 to 2007 and again for a short stint in 2014 – will be joined by the likes of Simon Bailey (Jason), Norman Bowman as Frank, and Liam Doyle will play Kyle, who was portrayed by ‘Hollyoaks’ actor Gary Lucy in the TV series.
Other cast members include Alice Fearn as Tanya – portrayed by ex-‘EastEnders’ star Zoe Lucker on the small screen – and Emma Hatton will play Chardonnay, which was former ‘Hollyoaks’ actress Susie Amy’s role.
Last month, it was revealed ‘Footballers’ Wives’ – which followed the fictional lives and loves of professional football players – would be set to return as a musical.
The show’s original creator Maureen Chadwick is behind the revival, and Kath Gotts has written added music and lyrics.
The musical is expected to follow the first series in which Tanya struggled to save her marriage to footballer Jason, and it also featured meddling club chairmen, deception, betrayal and murder.
However, Zöe has previously admitted she would be cautious about any kind of return for the series.
She said: "The thing that would worry me was if there was to be a reprise, what if it wasn’t as good?
"I always panic about that. The fact that people still talk about it the way they do, I would hate for any of us to go back and for any of us to be disappointed and it would be such a shame.
"The original writers were so good. They were such intelligent, creative women and I’m pretty sure if a script was to come forward it would be as exciting as an original series, but you just don’t know and I would hate to disappoint."
