Utopia for US remake on HBO

‘Utopia’ will be adapted for American television.

HBO is set to re-work Dennis Kelly’s conspiracy thriller, which will see acclaimed director David Fincher spearheading the project along with Gillian Flynn, who is on board to write the script as part of an overall deal she has signed with the network.

The Channel 4 series follows a group of friends who find themselves in possession of the manuscript for a sequel to a a cult graphic novel called ‘The Utopia Experiments’. The book is rumoured to have predicted the worst disasters of the last century.

The group’s well-being is at risk when they are targeted by a group known as The Network, who are on the hunt for the book, and the group must avoid them in order to survive.

‘Utopia’ won over UK viewers when it launched on Channel 4 in January 2013 and it has been picked up for a second season to air later this year.

The show stars Fiona O’Shaughnessy, Adeel Akhtar, Paul Higgins, Nathan Stewart-Jarret and Alexandra Roach.

David – whose film credits include ‘Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’, ‘The Social Network’ and ‘Fight Club’ – recently moved into TV by producing the hit Netflix show ‘House of Cards’.

Gillian is the author of the best-selling thriller novel ‘Gone Girl’, which David has adapted for the big screen.
