Tyra Banks has been "suffering" as a working mother.
The 43-year-old model gave birth to her son York in January 2016, and Tyra has admitted it’s been a challenge to balance her busy work schedule with raising her child, following her split from her boyfriend of five years, photographer Erik Asla.
Asked about the biggest surprise she’s encountered as a mother, Tyra explained: "Just how tired [I am].
"I’m tired right now because I was up all night. He was waking up all night last night, and [needed a] bottle at 5:30 this morning."
Tyra has a strong support network of people around her and despite the challenges she’s faced, the model considers struggling to be part and parcel of being a working mother.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: "I do have a lot of help, but I don’t have help all the time.
"So those moments when I’m like, in it and suffering, I’m like, ‘This is what I’m supposed to be doing as a mama.’"
Due to her jam-packed schedule, Tyra has already realised the importance of making the most of the time she has with her son.
As a result, she has advised other working mothers to follow her lead by ensuring they are not distracted by other things when they are with their own kids.
She said: "It’s all about quality, not quantity. When you’re there, make sure that time is concentrated and rich.
"I’m guilty of, ‘Oh, I’m here, but I’m here answering emails.’ So I’ve actually taken email off of my phone, so that when I’m with my son, I’m with him."
Meanwhile, Tyra also revealed she’s still waiting for York’s personality to emerge.
The American star shared: "I’m in the terrible 19-20-month-old thing right now.
"My mom says his personality is me now, and so she has no idea what he is going to be years from now. Like, is he going to be buck wild, insane, crazy?"
