Michelle Keegan "was aching in places she never knew could ache" when she trained for 'Our Girl'.
The former 'Coronation Street' beauty admits preparing for her role in the BBC drama has been hard work and she has "lost count of the amount of press ups" she has done.
She explained: "So, this week has mostly been about preparing and packing for South Africa to start filming for the drama. I have been spending time training. I have been in Aldershot for 4 days at an army barracks. This was no picnic! I did dabbing [fast walking] patrolling, drills, some medical training, and combat control.
"By the end (and the beginning) of every day I was aching in places I never knew I could ache. I lost count of the amount of press ups I have done. If we answered a question wrong or we weren't listening properly we'd have to get down and give 10/20 at a time. I answered a few wrong. We went for fast walks that turned into running for a couple of miles with the full army kit on and crawled through lots of very cold mud."
And despite the 28-year-old actress feeling physically exhausted by everything, she felt a "sense of achievement" on completing it.
Writing in her blog for HELLO! magazine, she added: "Even though the weather was bad - and by bad I mean hail stones kind of bad, we still had to do it!
"Even though it was hard and pushed me physically and mentally, I feel a sense of achievement and alot of respect for anyone who has gone through this kind of training."

Beverley Callard is "sick" of using fake props on the set of 'Coronation Street'.
The 58-year-old actress and the rest of the cast are reportedly "furious" that the ITV soap use the likes of fake flowers and cakes on set as they don't want to look like "amateur" actors.
A source said: "Every time the cast has to work with something like flowers or a cake, it's fake. This week they filmed a scene where Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) gave his wife Michelle (Kym Marsh) a bunch of flowers and they obviously weren't real.
"The stars are all furious because they want proper things to work with. It is a distraction for them to be using a rubbish prop. They are convinced that the audience can tell and it makes them look daft.
"Bev is particularly sick of it and has told staff they need a budget for props, unless they want the whole soap to look like 'amateurville.'"
The whole issue has reportedly become a "real problem" for the cast.
The insider added to The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "The props issue has become a real problem for the cast. It makes it worse that the items are all cheap ones. How much would it cost to buy a simple bunch of flowers or a cake? It's not like they are asking for Swarovski diamonds to act with. They don't feel like they are asking for the Earth."

Imogen Thomas was meant to be getting married this month.
The 33-year-old model may not yet be engaged to her boyfriend Adam Horsley but she has admitted they were planning to get hitched this year so that her sick dad Charles, who has now passed away from cancer, could give her away.
She explained: "I know he's going to do it [propose]. He asked my dad before he passed ... We were going to get married this year because my dad was given a year to live in November. We were planning to get married in March, so he could walk me down the aisle. Adam said he asked him [for his permission to get engaged] before I had the phone call to go home to see my dad for the last time."
But the brunette beauty has admitted she can't even think about her big day now because she's still coming to terms with her dad's tragic death just before Christmas last year.
She said: "I can't think about getting married - I'd be in tears because my dad's not there to walk me down the aisle."
Charles tragically passed away less than a month after the couple welcomed their second daughter Siera, and Imogen is thrilled her hero managed to meet her little girl beforehand.
She added to new! magazine: "I look at my baby and I see my dad. It's hard. He met her five days before he passed."

The 'Ex On the Beach' star, who will join Gaz Beadle, Charlotte Crosby, Chloe Ferry on the MTV hit series next week, has "spoilt" the programme for his sibling as she doesn't want to watch her brother getting up to naughty antics.

Meanwhile, although Marty's family are supportive of his new gig, fellow newcomer Chantelle can't say the same for her relatives.
She said: "I think the younger generation of my family will watch it, but my Nanna and my mam wouldn't watch it. My sisters will watch it. My cousins and that will.
"At the end of the day, if you don't like what you see don't watch it. I'm 26 I'll do what I want when I want. it's a show for over 18s; there's a lot of sex, there's a lot of swearing, a lot of people are prudes and don't like to watch that."

Spencer Matthews is sponsoring a child in Africa.
The 'Made In Chelsea' star was "absolutely devastated" when he was kicked out of 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here' for using steroids and flew out to the continent in the hopes of "focusing on making the world a better place".
A source said: "Spencer was absolutely devastated when he was forced to leave 'I'm A Celeb' and his whole life was left in tatters. He knew his family, friends and fans were so ashamed. He realised he had made a huge mistake and flew out to Africa to remind himself what really matters in life.
"He has been helping people who have absolutely nothing and it's made him realise he needs to grow up and take responsibility for his actions. The last few months have been life-changing for Spencer and now he's determined to focus on making the world a better place."
Whilst on his travels, he formed a "close bond" with one particular family and hopes to help more children in the future.
The insider added to The Sun newspaper: "The trip has forced Spencer to take stock of the important things in life and he has pledged to support a young girl. During his time in Africa he formed a close bond with one family in particular and he is now sponsoring one of their daughters.
"The little one looks up to Spencer and he is doing everything he can to support her financially so she can live free of poverty. Now he is back in England, he is still in regular contact with the girl and is eager to help even more children before the end of the year."

Jeremy McConnell has "really messed up this time".
The 'Celebrity Big Brother' star - who is dating 'Hollyoaks' beauty Stephanie Davis on and off - has admitted to sleeping with someone else soon after he left the reality show but insists he hasn't cheated as they weren't officially together at the time.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Jeremy seems to be writing his own agenda with the media. Despite being so new to it he feels he can decide what to say and what is best for his career.
"He said with true conviction that he hasn't cheated, putting on social media that this was the case and getting his friend Scotty to do the same.
"He has no direction and no one is guiding him in how to play the media. He's a loose cannon and he has really messed up this time."
As it is feared he has lost direction, it has been revealed that Stephanie has been admitted to hospital after suffering an asthma attack.
An insider said: "Stephanie went to hospital yesterday for an asthma attack. She didn't have her inhaler. She's had an up and down week with all the stress that's going on and it's being presumed that was the trigger. An ambulance was called and she spent four hours being treated."

Liberty X's Kevin Simm fears "the end" of his career if he fails on 'The Voice'.
The 'Just A Little' hitmaker was shocked when all four judges - Paloma Faith, Boy George, will.i.am and Ricky Wilson - turned their chairs for him during the blind auditions but thinks he has got a tough round ahead as he prepares for the battles.
He admits: "It is pushing me to my limit. I put a lot of pressure on myself in these sort of situations because when you're out there trying to prove yourself all over again, it is just tough. I've come in from a band. I felt a major pressure on me. My blind audition was a big sort of gamble.
"I had this worrying thing that if I didn't get any turns, that may as well be the end of my singing career so getting the four was amazing. I'm pretty confident that Faith [his rival contestant] will not slip up so I think I do have to be on my game and if I did screw something up then there's a good chance it will be the end of it for me."
And Kevin suffered a setback as an illness caused him to struggle with his vocals in rehearsals for the show.
Speaking on tonight's episode, Paloma said: "Kevin wasn't able to give 100%. I hope that's not something that he does in the performance because as they say in the business, the show must go on."
'The Voice' continues tonight (05.03.16) at 7pm on BBC One.

'Geordie Shore's Chantelle Connelly and Aaron Chalmers got each other's names tattooed on their first date.
The brunette newcomer has admitted she got her hunky co-star etched onto her wrist for the "experience" whilst they were shooting the twelfth series of the MTV hit reality show.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Chantelle said: "Me and Aaron went on our first date to a tattoo shop and he got my name tattooed and I got his. I'd never ever get rid of it. It was my first big experience of 'Geordie Shore'.
"It was my biggest scene I did. Me and Aaron just went in there, we got each other's name.
"Aaron was like a little b***h getting it done. You would think he is good at tattoos but he's not good at getting them."
But Aaron doesn't feel the same about his body artwork and has since got Chantelle's moniker zapped off.
He explained: "When we were filming series 12. I got her name and she got mine. Just for a laugh. I've been getting it removed because my tattooist isn't too happy. He doesn't like anyone else touching my skin because he has done everything. So he was like 'Get it off!' I just didn't want it on. I did it for a laugh but I didn't really think. When I done it, I thought 'Oh s**t, this is on my body for life.' "

Gregg Wallace won't return to 'Saturday Kitchen'.
The 51-year-old presenter fronted the first series of the cookery show in 2002, before being replaced by Antony Worrall Thompson just 12 months later, but he has admitted there's no way he'd slip back into his apron when current host James Martin steps down later this month.
Asked if he'd return to the tummy-gurgling show, he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "No, because I think you have to give up every Saturday morning and I don't think I've got it to give. I would rather fulfill the work obligations I have got at the moment. I wouldn't be able to do 'Saturday kitchen', I haven't got the Saturday mornings to give."
And with him and James - who decided to hang up his oven gloves after 10 years so that he could have his Friday nights back and enjoy Saturday morning lie ins - out of the picture, Gregg does have someone in mind who will fit the bill.
Asked who he thinks should present the show, he said: "My friend [Australian celebrity chef] John Torode!"
Meanwhile, for now, Gregg has his hands tied up with 'The Ideal Home Show', which returns to London Olympia from March 18 until April 3, where he'll offer further insight into food and drink. Tickets are available now at www.idealhomeshow.co.uk
