Turin Breaks think they’re owed a favour by Adele.
The band were supported by the chart-topping singer at a gig in Camden, London, before her career really took off, and Olly Knights has urged fans to shun Adele’s long-awaited Glastonbury performance because it clashes with their own show.
Speaking to Absolute Radio’s Pete Donaldson backstage at the Isle of Wight Festival, the Turin Brakes star quipped: "Well, don’t go and see Adele at Glasto because I think we’re playing at the same time as her. It’s rather unfortunate for Adele, I’d say – rather unfortunate for her.
"She did actually support us once. In a pub in Camden. We only found out recently, because someone picked up a review of that gig, so it was like The Lock Tavern in Camden mentioned Adele, this new London singer-songwriter. We had no idea. She owes us one."
Olly has also backed Adele to make a success of her Glastonbury appearance, despite there being much discussion over whether she is a suitable headline act.
He said: "Yeah, and actually, why not? She’s incredibly popular and famous and sings enormous songs that everybody seems to really like, so that should be perfect, really."
This year’s Glastonbury festival begins on June 22 and finishes on June 26.
