Tupele Dorgu and Rupert Hill join Bread and Roses cast

Rupert Hill and Tupele Dorgu are to star in play ‘Bread and Roses’.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actor – who made his debut in the Channel 4 soap as Josh Bradley in April – and the former ‘Corrie’ star, who portrayed Kelly Crabtree for six years, have joined forces to co-star in the production about the power of protest.
Rupert – who also appeared in ‘Coronation Street’ as Jamie Baldwin between 2004 and 2011 – wrote on Twitter: "I’m proper proud to be a part of this incredible production. Please come and see us.
"It’s a terrific piece about the power of protest. It’s funny, intelligent and heartbreaking. The songs performed by the cast are a real treat too. Shameful self promotion over @OldhamColiseum (sic)"
‘Bread and Roses’ has been written by TV scribe Ian Kershaw – the husband of former ‘Corrie’ actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, who played Hayley Cropper in the soap – and will show at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre from June 22 to July 7.
‘Bread and Roses’ tells the gripping real-life story of the mill workers strike in Lawrence, Massachusetts, USA in 1912, when 20,000 workers fought for bread to feed their families, and roses to live a full life.
The play features accounts of both fictional and real people, including Lucy-Rose Atkins, who went on a journey from under-skilled worker to passionate leader.
Since departing ‘Corrie’ in 2010, Tupele has starred on several shows, including ‘Waterloo Road’, ‘Cucumber’, ‘Billionaire Boy’, ‘The Coroner’ and most recently as Monica Blears in ‘Casualty’.
In between appearing in ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Hollyoaks’, Rupert starred as Kieran Wallace in the now-defunct police procedural TV series ‘The Bill’ in 2008.
