Tommy Cannon is reportedly being eyed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 78-year-old comic is most known for being one half of veteran comedy duo Cannon and Ball alongside Bobby Ball, but he’s now reportedly in talks for becoming the oldest contestant ever on the BBC Latin and ballroom dance competition.
Tommy’s comedy partner Bobby was 68 when he competed in the Christmas Special version of the show in 2012, and last year’s Leslie Joseph was 71 when she took to the dancefloor, but at 78 Tommy would be the oldest contestant in ‘Strictly’ history.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Tommy would be brilliant on the show and it’s quite exciting that he would be the eldest ever to appear.
"There have been no formal discussions yet, but it’s clear that he would be up for it. Everyone remembers him from his glory days – especially the older ‘Strictly’ audience.
"If he did get signed up, it would obviously be on condition of passing a medical like every other celeb to see if they could take the hours of training."
It wouldn’t be Tommy’s first foray into competitive reality television either, as in 2005 he competed on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’, but failed to make a lasting impact as he was the first to be booted from the jungle.
He also appeared alongside Bobby, 73, in a celebrity version of ‘Coach Trip’, where they managed to be crowned runners up behind ‘EastEnders’ stars Derek Rapp and John Altman.
Meanwhile, ‘Gogglebox’ stars Steph and Dom Parker are also reportedly being eyed for the series, as bosses believe they’ll bring "great routines" similar to politician Ed Balls who was a fan favourite last year.
An insider said: "They’re great characters and everyone loves watching them just when they’re sat on their sofa.
"Dom has the potential to provide great routines like Ed did and Steph would be fantastic going up against the judges."
