Tim Healy blasts Auf Wiedersehen, Pet re-runs

Tim Healy has insisted re-runs of ‘Auf Wiedersehen, Pet’ have been ruined by cuts due to "political correctness".

The 68-year-old actor – who played Dennis Patterson in the classic 1980s comedy – has blasted TV bosses for editing out scenes because it makes the rest of the episodes look "awkward and stilted".

After a fan watched a re-run on television, she tweeted: "Loving watching the first ever episode of @aufwiedpet on Yesterday TV tonight making me want to watch the rest of the series!

"@TheRealTimHealy great to see you on the tv again! Hope you and your family are keeping well Tim #aufwiedersehenpet #firstepisode"

However, he replied: "Thank you Lauren but it’s such a shame all the gags have gone. So the rhythm of the scenes have become stilted and awkward.Double B****cks xx (sic)"

Another fan agreed with the ‘Benidorm’ star and wrote: "I regularly re-watch the DVD’s, The re-runs on Yesterday are absolutely pointless, totally cut to shreds and I don’t know why half of the content is edited! Still one of the best TV series ever made all these years on!"

To which Tim simply replied: "Political correctness gone mad !!"

The show – which ran for four series from 1983 to 2004 – made household names out of Healy and his co-stars Kevin Whately, Jimmy Nail, Timothy Spall, Gary Holton, Christopher Fairbank and Pat Roach.

It told the story of seven British construction workers who leave the UK to search for employment overseas with the first series seeing the men live and work on a building site in Düsseldorf.

Meanwhile, Tim previously admitted he’d be up for a revival of the comedy, providing writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais were involved.

In a series of tweets, he said: "Not up to me… I’m just an actor… [But] if Dick and Ian wrote it yes I would. Pensioners abroad hee hee!!! (sic)"
