Thomas Markle thought his daughter Meghan looked "beautiful" as she tied the knot with Prince Harry on Saturday (19.05.18).
The father of the bride was unable to make it to St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle for the big day after having to undergo surgery but he did tune in to the worldwide coverage of the event and wished the happy couple "all my love and all happiness".
He said: "My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy. I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness."
Thomas also told TMZ that it was "emotional and joyful" watching the couple tie the knot.
As Thomas was unable to be at the wedding, Prince Charles – Harry’s father – stepped in to walk Meghan down the aisle. Meghan’s mother Doria was the only member of Meghan’s family to attend the nuptials.
Kensington Palace confirmed on Friday (18.05.18): "Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day. The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way."
Meghan had previously released a statement to confirm her father wouldn’t be able to make it to the wedding.
She shared: "Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health. I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday."
Thomas recently insisted that he was feeling "OK" after heart surgery – but says he will take "a long time to heal" after having stents implanted in his blood vessels.
He said: "I’m OK. It will take a long time to heal. Staying in the hospital a few more days. Not allowed to get excited."
