The Rubens’ Sam Margin thinks that Kanye West has become "a joke".
The Australian rocker says it’s a shame that people can’t take the ‘All Day’ rapper’s music "seriously" because his personality provokes a love/hate response and although he likes his songs he believes it has become "hard" for fans to "digest" them in recent years because of what goes on in the personal life of Kanye – who is married to Kim Kardashian West.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he said: "I’m not really a fan of [‘The Life of Pablo’]. I think his personality is making it harder for people to digest his music. I think he’s hilarious. I don’t think people take him seriously any more, which is a shame. He was very good, but he has become a bit of a joke now."
Platinum-selling group The Rubens were heavily influenced by hip hop on their forthcoming LP ‘Hoops’ and even beat the likes of Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd with the lead single of the same name, which was number one in the Triple J Hottest 100 Chart.
On their chart achievement, Sam said: "It was pretty crazy we weren’t expecting it at all. The fact Kendrick was in there it’s insane."
When asked if the group – which includes Sam’s brothers Zaac and Elliott Margin and Scott Baldwin and William Zeglis – would love to get a hip hop star to remix one of their songs, Sam replied: "We’d love to team up with some hip hop artists, who could do a remix of the song. But we just haven’t found the right person."
‘Hoops’ is released in the UK via Warner Bros. Records on May 20.
