‘The Million Pound Drop’ has been axed.
The BAFTA-winning game show, hosted by Davina McCall, has been dropped by Channel 4 following just five years on screen in a bid to save and pump cash into other shows.
A source explained to The Sun newspaper: "Bosses have decided to put their money into other shows and there are no plans currently to bring back ‘The Million Pound Drop’. People say it’s a shame as it had a big following."
However, despite the broadcaster’s determination to save cash for other ventures, the popular programme, which ran for 11 series and saw contestants play for the £1 million jackpot, hasn’t been given the cold shoulder permanently and may be given the chance to return for another series in the future.
A spokesperson from Channel 4 said: "’The Million Pound Drop’ is not scheduled but could come back at some stage."
Meanwhile, fans will no doubt be shocked to hear the news as the game show, which also featured celebrity versions, has managed to pull in some big ratings since 2010.
