Teddy Sheringham wants to keep his Tree outfit from ‘The Masked Singer’.
The 53-year-old football manager was unveiled as Tree on the ITV competition on Saturday (18.01.20) – after loosing out to Octopus in the sing-off – but since shredding his leaves, Teddy has been missing his costume and hopes to wear it again for special occasions.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he said: "I’d love to wear the costume at one of my kid’s birthday parties, that would be special."
Teddy admitted he decided to sign up for the show for his kid after turning down plenty of reality TV offers "over the years".
He explained: "I’ve been asked to do everything over the years but always declined. I saw the show that aired in the States and thought I’d love to do that for my kids.
"The panel were great, big names and really complementary considering I can’t sing! It’s ok. I didn’t expect to win, I just wanted to enjoy the experience and get to work with some good people."
Meanwhile, Teddy – who took to the stage to perform ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers – has revealed that his wife, Kristina Andriotis, urged him to quit the show after listening to his singing.
Speaking on Monday’s (20.01.20) episode of ‘This Morning’, he said: "When I first went and did the rehearsals, I was in a studio and sung the song to a backing track. I thought it sounded alright and my vocal coach sent it through to me later that day.
"I played it to my wife and it was horrendous. She just went ‘You’ve got to get out of this. You are going to get ridiculed for the rest of your life.’ "
The former Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and England player also opened up on the lengths the show goes to keep the singer’s identities hidden, revealing that he had to wear a balaclava.
Teddy said: "We turn up, balaclavas on, with a top on saying ‘Don’t speak to me’. You get ushered in, put your costume on, do your bit and leave."
