Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik surprised fans on Thursday night (08.12.16) by releasing a duet for ‘Fifty Shades Darker’.
The ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker – who previously dated Zayn’s former One Direction band mate, Harry Styles – shared a clip of the song, which is called ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever, on Instagram.
In the preview, she sings: "Baby, baby, I feel crazy/Up all night, all night and every day/Give me something, oh, but you say nothing/What is happening tonight?"
And the ‘Like I Would’ singer then belts out: "I don’t wanna live forever/’Cause I know I’ll be living in pain."
The track is already at the top of the US iTunes chart, knocking Machine Gun Kelly and Camila Cabello’s ‘Bad Things’ off the top spot.
The single from the eagerly-anticipated sequel to ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ is the 26-year-old pop beauty’s first new music since 2014’s ‘1989’.
Taylor and Zayn teamed up with Sam Dew and Jack Antonoff to write the song, and the track came together in just a week.
Jack revealed on Twitter: "i don’t wanna live forever came together very quickly. wrote it with taylor and sam dew and produced it at home mostly on paper sounds
"recorded taylor at my house. zayn sent parts from LA – we did it in a week basically. i’ve never had something come out that quick.(sic)"
It’s Zayn’s third collaboration this year, following ‘Freedun’ with M.I.A and ‘Cruel’ with Snakehips.
It follows Taylor’s only full concert of 2016, after she performed last month at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix.
There she performed the song she wrote for ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris.
And as well as playing her biggest hits for the 80,000-strong crowd, she also treated the audience at the Super Stage area in Del Valle, Texas, to a piano-led rendition of ‘This Is What You Came For’, which was a chart-topping hit for the DJ in collaboration with Rihanna earlier this year.
As for Zayn, he has been off the live circuit for some time after pulling out of performances due to feeling "haunted by anxiety".
However, he attended the 2016 American Music Awards on November 20, where he was crowned Best New Artist.
