Susie Dent: I’m sent lots of ‘strange’ fan letters

Susie Dent has received lots of "strange" fan letters.
The 54-year-old lexicographer – who has appeared in ‘Dictionary Corner’ on ‘Countdown’ since 1992 – has revealed her bosses won’t allow her to see the odd things that fans send to her through the post.
Susie – who stars on the popular show alongside Rachel Riley – told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "Our wonderful ‘Countdown’ team tend to filter out strange messages or presents that come our way.
"But ‘Countdown’ viewers are second to none in their loveliness.
"I remember the office being inundated with Gypsy Cream biscuits after Richard Whiteley mentioned he loved them.
"Rachel Riley has had so many beautiful baby gifts she’s overwhelmed! And I did once receive a marriage proposal from a member of the audience, but I am not sure it was entirely serious!"
Susie also engages with her fans via social media.
However, the Oxford University-educated star was initially reluctant to use Twitter, admitting she is a "private person".
She said: "I am such a private person that it took me years to venture into social media, but spreading the joy of words is something I love.
"I used to tweet and run, but now I make a genuine effort to read the responses, even if I can’t answer them all."
