Susanna Reid hoping for ‘a miracle’ for Kate Garraway’s husband

Susanna Reid is "hoping for a miracle" for Kate Garraway’s husband.

The 49-year-old TV presenter held back the tears as she paid tribute to her ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-star, after she spoke about her husband Derek Draper, who is still in a coma following his battle from coronavirus.

Before starting the show on Monday (08.06.20), Susanna said on ‘GMB’: "Before we begin, I think we both just want to send our love to our colleague and friend Kate Garraway.

"We both watched her interview on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Friday. Millions of you watched as well as she told you and us all about the situation about Derek."

Kate – who has kids Darcey, 14, and Billy, 10, with Derek – has shared weekly updates of her husband’s situation after he was put into a coma after testing positive for coronavirus in March.

The ‘GMB’ team have been hoping for a miracle for the 53-year-old TV presenter and her family, as they go "through hell".

Susanna added: "Absolutely heartbreaking for the family and then she did an interview in The Sun over the weekend, more details came out. So huge, huge love to Kate, she’s going through hell, the family’s going through hell. There is hope still, of course.

"And she said they were hoping for ‘that miracle’ – and we’re all hoping with her. So huge love to Kate."

Kate recently gave a more detailed explanation of Derek’s condition, and revealed doctors have prepared her for the "second worst case scenario", which is that Derek never wakes up from his coma.

She told the publication: "There was a terrible phone call two weeks ago from a senior doctor in the intensive care unit. He asked me what my greatest fear was.

"I said, ‘Derek dying’ and he replied, ‘Well, now I think I have to give you a second worst case scenario, which is that he never changes from this. That he is locked in this forever’. He said, ‘I’m not telling you this to scare you. It’s because we don’t know if he can recover. We’ll only know over the coming weeks and months’.

"I threw up, there and then. People had said to me before that they thought he was going to die, but not that he might stay in this state."
