Suranne Jones was against Doctor Foster series 2

Suranne Jones was initially opposed to the idea of another series of ‘Doctor Foster’ following its success last year.
The 37-year-old actress may have scooped a number of awards over the past year for her role as broken GP Gemma Foster in the popular drama series but she has admitted, despite the first installment getting raving reviews, she was sceptical about agreeing to another batch of episodes.
Speaking after she picked up Best Actress for the troubled part at last night’s (08.05.16) British Academy Television Awards, held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, she said of the next series: "I’ve read episode one and I’m due two and three. At first I didn’t know whether there should be a series two but then I wanted to look at the aftermath of a divorce as I don’t think there’s been any of that on TV…"
The brunette beauty won over the hearts of the nation when her alter-ego discovered her husband Simon (Bertie Carvel) had been having an affair with a beautiful blonde named Kate Parks (Jodie Comer) for two years behind her back.
Suranne initially thought the programme would struggle to pull in viewers because dramas based on affairs aren’t as popular, but she was stunned by the response it got.
She explained: "I wondered whether people would come to a drama about affairs. It was a slow burner but by episode three people were stopping me on the street. Then I really started to think this is big. I don’t like to watch my things but by the finale I got behind the characters in a removed way."
Suranne is currently gearing up to shoot the next series after taking a short break away to have her little son.
She added: "Taking time off with my family has given me a new life experience which I think actors should have all the time. I’m loving being a mum – it was hard to leave him behind. It’s everything that I thought it would be and more."
