Suranne Jones feels she can finally "move on" now that ‘Scott and Bailey’ is to end.
The 37-year-old actress has played Rachel Bailey alongside Lesley Sharp’s Janet Scott in the popular detective drama since 2011 and, although it’ll be an end of an era when the series comes to a natural conclusion after the current fifth series, she’s glad to wave goodbye to the show.
Speaking to The Radio Times magazine, she said: "We knew we were saying goodbye, so now that it’s out there, well, it’s good I think. It’s good to move on.
"We said we weren’t going to do another one last series, and then when ITV said, ‘Would you like to do another one?’. We kind of thought [why not], because there’s been quite a break between the last one and this one.
"And then I said, ‘Oh I’d quite like to produce as well,’ so they said yes come along and do that. So the whole thing was a goodbye in a sense: We were going to do a short thing, I was going to produce, and be properly on the team, because I’ve always put my nose in."
And, although one chunk of her life is drawing to a close, Suranne – who gave birth to her first child seven weeks ago – will certainly have "plenty on her plate" over the next coming months with the upcoming second series of ‘Doctor Foster’ – in which she plays the titular character, who finds out her husband is having an affair – set to hit screens later this year.
