‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant Michelle Visage suffered with an eating disorder for two decades.
The ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star will be competing on the BBC ballroom show this year and she has revealed that she would hide food in her cheeks as a child before running to the bathroom to spit it down the toilet.
In her book ‘Michelle Visage: The Diva Rules’ she shared: "Dinnertime suddenly involved about two trips to the loo. I couldn’t handle puking – bulimia in the traditional way wasn’t for me. I thought that by taking laxatives the calories would be flushed out."
Michelle, 50, also revealed that when she was living on the road as a professional dancer she relied on laxatives to try and control her weight.
But in her late 20s, Michelle – was a member of the band Seduction – finally got her eating disorder under control and was able to develop a healthy relationship with food.
She said: "I was relying on my body for happiness. Your body is not your happiness. Even if you lose those last five pounds, all the things in your life that suck will suck after you do … "Now, I listen to my body, I feel a million times healthier and much more confident in my skin."
As well as Michelle, James Cracknell, Anneka Rice, Dev Griffin, Alex Scott, Jamie Laing, Will Bayley, Viscountess Weymouth Emma Thynn, Karim Zeroual, Mike Bushell, Catherine Tyldesley, Saffron Barker, David James, Chris Ramsey and Emma Barton will also compete on ‘Strictly’ this year.
