Sony Pictures making animated Spider-Man movie

Sony Pictures has announced it is making a new animated ‘Spider-Man’ film.
The studio now shares rights to the superhero character with Marvel and The Walt Disney Company and as well as new live action movie ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ the webslinger is getting a cartoon adventure.
Bob Persichetti has been confirmed as the director on the project.
The story artist is best known for his work on 2009’s ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’, 2004 animation ‘Shrek 2’ and Disney’s ‘Mulan’, but he will be making his directorial debut on ‘Spider-Man’.
Persichetti will work alongside writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are best known for their work on ’21 Jump Street’, ‘The Lego Movie’ and ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2’.
Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Avi Arad and Motion Pictures’ Amy Pascal are also part of the team.
Sony Pictures has confirmed the ‘Spider-Man’ animated movie will be independent to ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.
A statement clarified: "(The animated film) will exist independently of the projects in the live action Spider-Man universe, all of which are continuing."
The Spider-Man animation storyline is being kept underwraps.
It is yet to get its official title but it’s not expected to be released until 2018.
