Six Eurovision stars hoping to represent UK are unveiled

A singer who Simon Cowell once thought had the "wow factor" is hoping to represent the UK in the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’.
Asanda Jezile – who appeared on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ when she was just 11 years old – is one of the six contenders hoping to impress the nation over the next coming weeks so that she’s chosen to perform in Lisbon, Portugal, on Sunday May 12.
The 16-year-old aspiring singer made the finals of the ITV singing competition back in 2013 when she impressed judges Simon Cowell and Alesha Dixon with her rendition of Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ and Beyonce’s ‘Halo’.
The 58-year-old music mogul said at the time: "I’ve never seen anyone who has got such amazing stage presence for an 11 year old. Seriously, seriously good. You have the wow factor!"
Alesha added: "When you’re on the money your voice is incredible."
Since appearing on the show five years ago, Asanda has appeared in ‘Bugsy Malone’ at the Lyric Hammersmith in London.
Asanda has described her song ‘Legends’ as a "very universal" track as an "energetic rhythm" with an "tribal feel."
However, in order to preform on behalf of the UK, Asanda will need to fight off stiff competition from five other hopefuls.
The girl band Goldstone – which hails from Wales and is comprised of Aimie Atkinson, Helen Wint and Rhiannon Porter – formed in 2013 and have appeared in shows such as ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.
Their song ‘I Feel the Love’ "makes you feel positive about the world" with its message of "love don’t hate."
And they’re not the only ones with a background in music theatre as Liam Tamne has appeared in ‘Hairspray’, ‘Wicked’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and is hoping his song ‘Astronaut’ is "relatable and emotional."
Raya – who was once did the backing vocals for Little Mix – is determined to represent the UK and is hoping her song ‘Crazy’ wins over the nation because it’s "extremely catchy" and "upbeat."
SuRie – who appeared in ‘Les Miserables’ – can’t wait to perform her song ‘Storm’ as she believes it’s a "smash", while Jaz Ellington will be giving it his all when he sings his song ‘You’ to the nation.
He said: "My song is a story of two people in a relationship. It’s beautiful and yet sad at the same time."
The six acts will battle it out on ‘Eurovision: You Decide’, hosted by Mel Giedroyc, on February 7 at 7:30pm.
