Sir Mick Jagger is looking forward to having a "nostalgic moment on his own" at The Rolling Stones’ new exhibition.
The ‘Satisfaction’ hitmaker was thrilled to finally see all the elements of ‘Exhibitionism’ come together at the opening of the attraction at the Saatchi Gallery in London on Monday night (04.04.16) after four years of hard work.
Mick insists he didn’t get misty eyed over anything in the collection when he was compiling it but he is looking forward to having a walk through it by himself and remembering everything he has achieved in his career with the rock band.
Speaking on a special pink carpet at the launch, he told BANG Showbiz: "As a whole it doesn’t make me nostalgic because I’m into it as a whole. I’ve been trying to get it off the ground and get it ready. Maybe when it’s up and running I might come back and have a nostalgic moment on my own.
"The only thing that makes slightly nostalgic are the costumes, just a little bit, it’s not like I’m fighting back tears, which I think is a good thing. There’s a lot of good things in there when you look at it as a piece. There are some incredible photographs by some very well know photographers. There are some really cool art pieces.
"It’s not just about the band, there’s a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff that you don’t see, people like the stage designers, all this sort of thing, you can get a real appreciation for it. You see their sketch books and things like that, and that’s us, that’s the people we’ve worked with who have helped us and made all of this a reality. But there are lots of pictures of me of course!"
And the 72-year-old musician – who was joined on the carpet by his bandmates Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts as well as former bandmate Bill Wyman – hopes fans will find it as equally interesting as he did when he first toured the exhibition.
He added: "We’ve been working on it the last three or four years and the last 18 months we’ve worked really hard on it. It’s great to have it finished. It’s gratifying to have it finished, it’s been a long time coming so to see it I just think is really cool.
"We had to see what it could look like using models and virtual reality – it was hard for me looking at the space in virtual reality but I managed to do it. It’s come out a lot better than I thought.
"When you walk through it I think it’s a fun half hour, it’s a bit different for me, but I’m trying to look at it as a punter and I think it’s very interesting. If you don’t like The Rolling Stones it’s probably not for you! But if you do like The Rolling Stones then you’ll love it."
‘Exhibitionism’ opens at the Saatchi Gallery in London today (05.04.16).
Other stars in attendance included Mick’s model daughter Georgia May Jagger, James Bay, Bob Geldof and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie.
