Sir David Jason backs The Darling Buds of May remake

Sir David Jason has backed the ‘Darling Buds of May’ remake.
The 79-year-old TV legend – who played Pop Larkin in the popular 1990s show and would love to reprise the role if the opportunity arose – wants ITV to reboot the family drama to replace "vulgar" programmes as he believes too many of them are "rude".
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper at the premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s Luzia, David said: "We need more of that style to balance the shows we’ve got.
"We’ve got a lot of hard-hitting and rude, vulgar shows. You get an awful lot of that and, like a lot of people, I’m [like], ‘How can I sit there with my mother-in-law and my daughter?’ We switch it over."
It was reported in November that the show – set in the 1950s – themed show was to be "revamped" to replace ‘The Durrells’.
An insider said at the time: "A revamped version of ‘The Darling Buds Of May’ is just the kind of show ITV needs to keep its reputation for making family-friendly dramas.
"It brought people together around the TV almost three decades ago, and they’re hoping it will provide the same shared experience once again."
Meanwhile, David is waiting to find out if he is to return as Granville for BBC sitcom ‘Still Open All Hours’, as he has been left hanging by the broadcaster to .
He said: "We’re waiting for the BBC to tell us whether they want us to do any more. So we’re crossing our fingers. I think they will say yes but we’ll wait and see.
"The audience seem to like it and that’s the reason why we do it. As long as they want it, we’ll give it to them."
