Simon Bird: An Inbetweeners reunion will never happen

Simon Bird insists an ‘The Inbetweeners’ reunion will "never" happen.
The 35-year-old actor starred as Will McKenzie in the sitcom about teenagers and although he’ll always be very proud of his work on the TV show and two movies he doesn’t believe a comeback could work with the original cast as they are in their thirties and are too old for the madcap antics and crude gags.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’ on Monday (24.02.20), host Lorraine Kelly asked how many times he gets asked a day if ‘The Inbetweeners’ will return.
To which Simon replied: "Ten to twenty!"
Lorraine then said: "Never say never, look at ‘Gavin and Stacey.’"
To which Simon replied: "I mean I will say ‘never’ now. I think the reason that show worked is because the characters are kids, so they could say the terrible, awful things they said. Whereas if the characters were in their mid to late thirties, it’s slightly different!"
The coming-of-age series – which starred Simon, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas as a group of sixth formers – was first aired 2008 and ran for three series.
It went on two film two movies during the character’s departure from school in 2011, and another which was set during their university years in 2014.
Emily Head – who played Simon’s long-time love interest Carli D’Amato on the show – previously admitted that she hopes there will be a third movie but accepts that ‘The Inbetweeners’ is probably done.
The 30-year-old actress explained: "I think everyone sort of secretly hopes there will [be], I think we all probably secretly hope there would be, but I think it was such a special thing in the moment that you wouldn’t want to do it and get it wrong [or make something that] wasn’t what people were expecting.
"I think, to look back on something … It’s like if they do ‘Friends’ again now, it wouldn’t be the same. I think it was really of the moment."
