Sherrie Hewson wants to return to Coronation Street

Sherrie Hewson wants to return to ‘Coronation Street’.
The 65-year-old actress is desperate to reprise her role as Maureen Holdsworth – a part she has played on and off since 1993 – in the long-running soap and would love to see her alter ego ruffle some feathers by snatching the Webster’s Autocentre garage from Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell).
Speaking to the Manchester Evening Standard newspaper, she said: "I love Manchester, and Manchester has a love for me because of ‘Coronation Street’.
"I was in it for five years, I think Maureen is still in Germany. But I belong to the Webster family. I’d like to go back as more of a villain. Realistically you see, I own the garage – I was married to Bill Webster (Peter Armitage) who owned the garage – so that realistically is mine, or at least half of it is.
"So I could go back, throw Kevin out of the garage and say, ‘Go! This is mine now’ and no matter how much he begs, I’d say, ‘No, go!’ and everyone on the street would hate me."
Sherrie first appeared in the ITV programme in 1993 and strutted her stuff on the cobbles until 1997 until her alter ego ran away to Germany with Bill after her marriage with Fred Elliott (John Savident) began to crumble just a week in.
Her and Bill then made a return to Weatherfield in 2006 when he paid a visit to his family and started an affair with Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls), and Maureen returned to Germany.
Meanwhile, Sherrie’s desire to return to ‘Coronation Street’ comes just a few weeks after she quit her panel show ‘Loose Women’ in order to focus on her acting projects.
