Sherrie Hewson would return to ‘Coronation Street’ if the storyline was "right".
The ‘Benidorm’ star would be up for reprising her role as Maureen Webster in the ITV soap and would be especially keen if her alter-ego was lined up to be a new love interest of Ken Barlow (Bill Roache).
She told Soaplife magazine: "I’d return if the storyline was right.
"Maybe she could have a fling with Ken Barlow."
Sherrie’s aspirations for Maureen appear to have moved on slightly in recent years as in 2016 the 67-year-old actress admitted she would love to see the former supermarket worker hook up with Ken’s son Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).
She said at the time: "I don’t think the character finished. I think she could go back. But I’d like her to go back harder as she was a bit of a wimp.
"She could go back and be really strong and I don’t know, throw Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) out of the garage. Or have an affair with Chris Gascoyne – I know I’m too old for Chris Gascoyne – but I just love him. You never know."
Sherrie portrayed Maureen initially from 1993 to 1997 before her alter-ego departed Weatherfield for Germany with Bill Webster (Peter Armitage) without telling Fred Elliott (John Savident), who she had married a week before.
Maureen and Bill returned to our screens in 2006 when Bill headed back to the cobbles to visit his family but began an affair with Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).
But Maureen found out about their affair on Christmas Day and she headed back to Germany.
