Sheridan Smith’s father has been diagnosed with cancer.
The 34-year-old actress was forced to pull out of her stage performance of the musical ‘Funny Girl’ on Tuesday (01.03.16) evening at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory theatre after discovering her dad Colin is battling the disease – the same illness that killed her brother Julian 26 years ago.
The blonde beauty broke the heartbreaking revelation to her fans after she was slammed with backlash across social media for cancelling her performance at the last minute.
Taking to her Twitter account, Sheridan said, in a since deleted tweet: "If u just found out ur dad had cancer u would t be such a heartless human. Take care love (sic)."
The former ‘Gavin & Stacey’ star initially sparked concern earlier that day when she claimed she’d been rocked with some "s**t news" before following it up with a cryptic message that suggested she’d quit if she didn’t get enough money to pay for top-quality cancer treatment for her dad.
She wrote: "Decision made! Bye. Unless I get enough money to look after my dad (sic)."
Sheridan tragically lost her older sibling Julian over two-and-a-half decades ago – when she was just eight years old – and opened up about his devastating battle last year when she was portraying breast cancer sufferer Lisa Lynch in the heartbreaking TV drama ‘The C Word’.
She said at the time: "Of course I’ve been affected by my brother’s death… It makes me value life, cherish my loved ones and be grateful for every day I have with them."
