Shayne Ward wants to be "heckled" for his on-screen affair.
The 31-year-old actor – who plays Aidan Connor in the long running soap – is set to embark on a romantic session with Maria Connor (Samia Ghadie) and has admitted he wants viewers to get angry at him for his sordid behaviour so he knows he is doing a "good job".
Speaking about his hopes for a reaction from the risqué liaison, which occurs in Maria’s flat, the lothario – who is currently dating Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) on the show – said: "What happened with Maria was a mistake and he starts getting panicky that Maria thinks it’s more than a one-night stand.
"It starts becoming awkward … he’s still got a partner and she’s not keeping it cool. Eva is a bunny boiler – I wouldn’t want to feel her wrath.
"I’m going to see how the public respond to this … in a way I want someone to heckle me as then I know I’m doing a good job."
Although the fling makes Maria more attached to Aidan, which leads her to split up with her hairdresser beau Luke Britton (Dean Fagan), Aidan refuses to do the same and forsake his relationship with Eva for his neighbour.
The former ‘X Factor’ contestant explained to the Express website: "Aidan does [love Eva], but he doesn’t say anything – exactly like his dad. We don’t show a lot of emotion apart from anger.
"He should be with Eva … he fancied her from the get-go but he was her boss. However, he is focused on getting the business started rather than settling down."
