Shayne Ward ‘really hurt’ to miss out on NTAs nod

Shayne Ward has congratulated ‘Coronation Street’ stars on their National Television Awards nominations – but admitted he was "really hurt" to miss out on a nod.
The former ‘Corrie’ star was involved in a hard-hitting storyline earlier this year when his character Aidan Connor took his own life, but the 34-year-old actor was "lost for words" he and Richard Hawley (Johnny Connor) missed out on Best Serial Drama Performance nominations for the plot.
In a tweet last night (16.10.18), which now appears to have been deleted, he wrote: "This was the one I worked hard for.
It’s always a blessing to be put forward for a nomination And Im always humbled. But to have not even been considered for Best Serial Drama Performance for Aidan’s suicide has really hurt me.
"No nod for @RichardHawley1 too Lost for words. (sic)"
Shayne – who turned 34 yesterday – has also ‘liked’ a number of tweets from fans who praised his performance.
One read: "you defo should be at least nominated. My family has lost several members due to suicide. You deserve recognition for making it less taboo to discuss #rewardWardwithNTAaward (sic)"
Another fan tweeted: "The problem with this whole @shayneTward not being nominated for an NTA for his portrayal of Aidan just shows, to me-a person who battles suicidal thoughts frequently (like today)- that everyone forgets eventually. You’ll always be an after thought. People care, only at the time. (sic)"
One wrote: "Just to put this in perspective for the people slamming you, Joe Public could work at a charity and really care about it, but they still see their role as their career and would still aim for promotion. Take comfort that you did help so many with your brilliant performance. (sic)"
Shayne posted another tweet congratulating his former cast mates who are up for the Best Serial Drama Performance, Beverley Callard (Liz McDonald), Joe Duttine (Tim Metcalfe), Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt), Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe), Sally Ann Mathews (Jenny Connor), and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald).
He wrote: "Now On a serious note tho
Congratulations to all nominated @itvcorrie @OfficialNTAs
I truly hope you clear up on the night.
Fully deserved.
I love and miss you all.
Goodluck x (sic)"
Alexandra Mardell (Emma Brooker) is also up for the Best Newcomer award, and ‘Coronation Street’ itself will face off against ‘EastEnders’, ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ for the Serial Drama prize.
