Shawn Mendes would love to work with John Mayer again.
The 19-year-old musician considers the ‘Gravity’ hitmaker to be his "mentor", and after getting the chance to share a stage with him in Toronto earlier this year for a mash-up of Shawn’s ‘Mercy’ and John’s ‘In Your Atmosphere’, Shawn can’t wait to organise more collaborations with him in the future.
When asked if he’d ever work with John again, Shawn said: "We talk a lot, we’ve become really good friends. I kind of consider him to be a mentor of mine a little bit, and yeah, I think so. We never are in the same place at the same time which kinda sucks but we will."
The ‘Treat You Better’ hitmaker was a surprise guest at the 40-year-old musician’s acoustic set at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre back in April, and the young star praised his pal as "the coolest person in the world" for helping him stay calm when he was "freaking out" about the performance.
He added: "He’s the coolest person in the world, first of all. He was so calm and I was freaking out, and he was like ‘Dude, it’s going to be fine, we’re going to be fine, we got this.’ And I’m like ‘I don’t got this John, I really don’t got this!’ Anyways, he’s the best and it was really really fun. I was so, so excited to do that."
Shawn is no stranger to collaborations, having worked former Fifth Harmony star Camila Cabello on ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, and with Norwegian singer Astrid S on his track ‘Air’, and the hunky musician has teased further duets are on the cards in the future.
Speaking to Billboard at the American Music Awards (AMAs) on Sunday (19.11.17), Shawn said: "There’s been a few collaborations already that I’ve been writing for the next album. But I probably won’t say anything, you’ll find out."
