Shaun Wallace hopes to keep his Dark Destroyer nickname

Shaun Wallace wants to retain his ‘Dark Destroyer’ nickname.

The ‘Chase’ star has insisted he isn’t offended by the name, despite recent suggestions that it carries offensive undertones.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday newspaper, Shaun explained: "It was actually Bradley [Walsh] who started to call me the Dark Destroyer, and there was absolutely no side or sinister reason behind it.

"So no, Britain may be less PC, but guess what? I am proud to be black.

"If ITV were to ask me, or consider changing it, then I would tell them this, ‘I am proud to be black, I am proud to be dark. I want the name to stay as it is’.

"And because of my intellect – and I destroy people because of my intellect – then so be it. That’s the way I use the term the Dark Destroyer, and I am not offended. And I hope other people aren’t offended either."

Shaun, 60, revealed he’s been the victim of death threats and online trolling during his time on the show.

But the TV star doesn’t allow "nasty messages" to bother him.

He shared: "The way I respond is to block them. I don’t let those things affect me. If somebody carries out the death threat they’ve issued, then there’s not a lot I can really do about it.

"Anybody can easily hide behind a computer and issue death threats, and I’m glad these social media platforms controlling it are making efforts to trace these people and bring them to heel. If you hide behind anonymity and you get found out, then you deserve to be brought to justice.

"I don’t see myself as a poster boy for race relations because I don’t see myself as any different to anyone else of my colour who has been stopped and racially profiled.

"It’s happened to me in the past, and although it hasn’t happened in 20 years, it’s important to bring it to the fore so we can help to eradicate those forms of discrimination. Otherwise, we will never move forward."
