Shania Twain used to be "very monotone" in relationships until she met her husband.
The ‘You’re Still the One’ hitmaker feels lucky to be married to Frederic Thiebaud – who she met after his former wife Marie-Anne had an affair with her former husband Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange – and says they have a "passionate love on every level".
She said: "Yes, it’s a passionate love on every level. I used to be very monotone in my relationships … We are happier individuals, even without each other. We are way more confident in our own selves."
And the 52-year-old singer wishes her 16-year-old son Eja’s family wasn’t broken and would have kept the marriage together if she could.
She added: "I would never choose for my son’s family to be broken. I would be one of those people who would keep my marriage together for my child … I tried to keep Mutt."
And Shania doesn’t want to give her split from Mutt too much credit as it wasn’t "nearly as bad" as her mother and stepfather passed away in a car crash.
She told The Guardian newspaper: "I started peeling back the layers of pain I was in and all the other griefs and disappointments and challenges came to the surface. And I thought, ‘I’ve been through worse and it’s time to put it all into perspective.’ When my parents died, I experienced a much deeper grief than even the betrayal. I was just out of myself. When you add shock to grief, it does crazy things to your mind. And that really helped me through – this was not nearly as bad as my parents dying. I survived that and I don’t want to give this so much credit."
