Shailene Woodley isn’t "interested" in a ‘Divergent’ TV show.
The 24-year-old actress – who plays the main character Tris Prior in the movies – has shunned the idea of turning the film series into a television show as it isn’t what she "signed up" to do.
Speaking to the website Screen Rant, she said: "Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn’t sign up to be in a television show. Out of respect to the studio and everyone in involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show."
Bosses at Lionsgate – the company who produced the movie franchise – have been discussing the idea of moving over to TV after the latest instalment ‘Allegiant’ flopped at the box office. The idea was to fold the storyline from the last movie into the TV spin-off’s first series, which would also give them the chance to introduce new characters in the future.
The news of the rejection of the plans by the ‘Fault in Our Stars’ actress comes after her co-star Miles Teller – who plays Peter Hayes – revealed last month that he had "every intention" of seeing the franchise through, but only if it remained in movie format.
The 29-year-old said previously: "I’ve talked to nobody. When we all signed on for the first one we had every intention of finishing it theatrically. We signed on for x amount of movies and you take that all into consideration. We wanted to see that storyline finish. You know, it’s moving into a different format. So who knows? We all really enjoyed that time we spent together and those characters."
The decision to press forward with the plans for a TV show follows reports that Lionsgate had received massive budget cuts for the final instalment ‘Ascendant’, which was scheduled for a June 2017 release.
