Selena Gomez insists music career ‘isn’t done’ yet

Selena Gomez has insisted her music career “isn’t going away”.

The 32-year-old star – who rose to fame on the likes of ‘Barney and Friends’ and Disney Channel’s ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ – has focused on her acting in recent years, and hasn’t released a studio album since 2020’s ‘Rare’, while she dropped the single ‘Love On’ in February this year.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: “I think I’ve done just as much as I wanted to do in music, but it’s exciting because I feel like I haven’t even started in film and TV, even though I know I’ve been a part of some great projects and I’m really proud of them.

“I like that I have to earn my position, and I love storytelling. So, I’m excited to do more of that.”

She was quick to clarify that she hasn’t quite done everything she wants to do in the music world.

She added: “Almost done. Music isn’t going away. I just set it down for a second.”

The ‘Only Murders In The Building’ star insisted the main thing she gets from acting compared to music is “sanity”.

She explained: “You go into a room [to do junket press], and it’s really scary to talk about music that maybe has been a part of your story and isn’t anymore.

“And it’s really hard to sit there and talk about myself. It’s draining.

“But every interview I’ve done for this movie, there’s not been one personal question asked, and I’ve wanted to kiss every single reporter in the mouth and just say, thank you, because it’s been so refreshing, and I think that that’s a space that is safer for me.”

When it comes to music, Selena – who released ‘Single Soon’ in 2023 – wants to release a new album at some point, but she’s not been actively writing.

She told Variety: “I currently don’t have anything, but I will say music is going to always be a part of me. So I don’t think any movements are happening right now, but it will always be in my life.”
