‘Coronation Street’s David Platt and Shona Ramsey will get a second wedding.
David’s estranged wife Shona can’t remember him after being injured in the soap’s Christmas Day (25.12.19) shooting, and she informed her man she wants a divorce but showrunner Iain MacLeod has reassured fans that David and Shona will ultimately enjoy a happy ever after.
He told Metro.co.uk: "It’s certainly been discussed – that’s the most poignant thing about it. To Shona the wedding pictures she has been shown are just two strangers dancing in the bistro.
"What we want to do is ensure that it feels like a love story so we need some kind of warm ending – or a confetti moment for the audience to punch the air with joy."
However, he warned that it will be a rocky road back to happiness for the couple.
He said: "They work best as sparky and funny so there will be comedy but her feelings are absent and there’s no emotional attachment – it will be a bumpy road. It’s not love at first sight when she sees him – for his part, David’s challenge is to make her fall back in love with him.
"But she’s also a different proposition too so he also has to fall back in love with her. Nobody has a long term desire to split them up so they will have a happy ending. They’re like cheese and crackers – none are good without the other. But it’s a very unique and emotionally complicated story."
Jack P.Shepherd, who plays David, recently admitted he believes David will lose Shona (Julia Goulding), unless he "can do something drastic".
He explained: "David is breaking down and this is really affecting him, but he is not letting anybody see him or letting anyone in. He doesn’t know what to do because he can’t get to Shona. Everything may be lost unless David can do something drastic to win Shona back."
