Sarah Lancashire in talks for a third season of Happy Valley

Sarah Lancashire is in talks to return for a third series of ‘Happy Valley’.
The 51-year-old actress has played the role of feisty Sergeant Catherine Cawood in the first two series of the BBC One crime drama but fears were sparked that she would not return to the part following last week’s season two finale after she was quoted as saying she "wouldn’t want it to go to a third series".
However, a spokeswoman for Red Production Company, which makes ‘Happy Valley’ has revealed she has already begun discussions with creator Sally Wainwright about reprising her role.
In a statement, the spokeswoman said: "Sarah and Sally have been talking and Sarah would be very keen to revisit Catherine Cawood."
According to The Mail On Sunday newspaper, Sarah had distanced herself from another stint as Sergeant Cawood quoting her as saying: "I wouldn’t want it to go to a third series, I really wouldn’t, then it becomes something else. We set out to tell a story and we have told it.
"The temptation is you see something that is great and you think, ‘This can run and run and run,’ but then it becomes a homogenised, diluted thing."
The ‘Happy Valley’ Series Two finale peaked at almost 8 million viewers in the overnight ratings – making it BBC One’s most successful dramas in years.
The programme also stars Siobhan Finneran, George Costigan, Charlie Murphy and Katherine Kelly.
