Sara Cox has amassed a big collection of thermal underwear to put on when she’s filming ‘Love In The Countryside’.
The 44-year-old star doesn’t try to dress "sexy" for the dating show because of the freezing cold conditions, and much prefers to wear long johns so she can keep warm on set.
She told the Series Linked TV podcast: "Up in Carlisle it was gorgeous.
"However, it’s kind of like an optical illusion, because you look out and it’s blue skies and it looks beautiful and glorious, and then it’s like the Arctic tundra when you’re actually out there, it’s freezing.
"You forget that up north, that far north they do chilled to the bone really, really well. So I’ve now got, well, I’m building a collection of thermal underwear. Sure, it’s not sexy, but it’s very practical and I’m quite into it.
"Who would think the Sara Cox of the ’90s would be so bang into long johns? I know.
"Got some Merino wool. I’ve upgraded. Apparently, that’s the ultimate base layer."
The broadcaster also opened up about the upcoming debut of her new morning weekend TV programme ‘The Sara Cox Show’ – which starts this weekend on ITV – and joked it will be "the sort of show that’s nice to eat carbs to".
She added: "It’s a chat show, so we’re going to have lovely guests flogging their wares and telling us what to watch.
"Yeah, so I think we’ll get actors and comedians, and we’re going to get some podcasters in. We’re just going to have fun and hang out, and, hopefully, it’ll be the sort of show that’s nice to eat carbs to.
"I want it to be funny, because, you know, as the youngest of five, I’m constantly jazz handing around, desperate to get a giggle out of anybody, and so I want it to be funny, but not too raucous and annoying. I’m going to find a nice balance."
