Sam Smith’s fame ‘got in the way’ of love

Sam Smith’s fame has "got in the way" of his love life in the past.
The ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ hitmaker is pleased to be dating ’13 Reasons Why’ star Brandon Flynn as he "kind of gets" what it is like to be so famous.
He said: "I didn’t know we were being pictured and it’s such a weird thing to get your head around. But I’m really happy for once. The pictures can rush things but all I know is I’m happy and I’m just trying to see how it goes.
"Right now what I’m experiencing is very early days, but it’s nice to be with someone who kind of gets it. My job has got in the way of my relationships in the past because it’s just hard to relate to, and people don’t want to be a part of what I’ve got going on in my life."
And the 25-year-old singer admits it is a "real challenge" dealing with fame as "everyone treats you differently".
He added: "Me becoming famous was a real challenge and it was a hard period of my life. I really went through a bit of a spiral. I wish people could see everything. I think we know now from the history of fame and looking at people like Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson that fame is a dangerous thing. Every aspect of your life shifts and everyone treats you differently."
The tough demands of fame have led to Sam wanting to chuck it all in but he says his family and friends keep him grounded.
Asked if there was any times where he felt like giving up, he told The Sun’s Bizarre Life podcast: "Completely, yeah, there really was. There was one time when I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this’. There’s even times now, in the last few weeks, when things have been really ramping up when I ask myself, ‘What have I got myself into?’ It’s a mad world that I’m in.
"My family, my friends are such a huge part of who I am, and that relationship is everything. And when you’re taken away from your family and not able to see them one-on-one and be there for them for two, three years, that’s when it kind of rocked my world."
