Sam Smith has admitted it was a "dream come true" when he got to meet ‘Mary Poppins’ star Julie Andrews at the Raise Your Voice Gala on Monday night (05.03.18).
The 25-year-old singer took time out from his busy schedule to perform at the event held at the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City in support of surgeon Dr. Steven Zeitels, who removed polyps on his vocal cords saving his music career.
Among the guests at the star-studded evening was 82-year-old screen legend Andrews, and Smith just had to meet her because he was obsessed with the Disney musical about the magical nanny when he was growing up.
Taking to Twitter about his chat with Andrews, he wrote: "Words cannot describe last night. Such an honour to sing in support of The Voice Health Institute. Steven Zeitels & his incredible team saved my voice. Forever grateful & so passionate about the work you do. I’ll also never ever forget the night I met Dame @JulieAndrews … When I was three years old I used to dress up as Mary Poppins and my dad would fly me around the house (gay from birth) – Last night was a dream come true [sic]"
Zeitels has saved the voices of some of the world’s top music stars, including Adele, The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Lionel Richie, and many famous faces were at the gala.
Roger was in attendance as well as Christina Perri and Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton.
