Sam Smith didn’t "respect" himself.
The ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ hitmaker is glad to be opening up about his life on his new album ‘The Thrill Of It All’ and decided to pen the LP mostly about the journey he has been on himself over the past year.
He said: "This album is more about my relationship with myself. I didn’t respect myself a lot, I didn’t like myself last year. It was about me getting to a good place with myself. It wasn’t about any other guys. I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror, so I worked on that and now I really do."
And the 25-year-old singer is "really happy" with ’13 Reasons Why’ actor Brandon Flynn but wants to keep his relationship out of the spotlight for the most part.
He added to the Daily Star on Sunday newspaper: "Yes, I’m really happy but it’s always important for me to keep my private life private."
It comes after Sam admitted he feels "a bit behind" in his relationships.
He shared: "I do feel I’m a bit behind in my relationships. I wish I’d been in a long-term relationship by this age. But then, I didn’t move to London until I was 19.
"I’d grown up in an area where I was the only gay guy in school, the only gay guy in my village. I’d definitely be emotionally richer now if I’d had a long-term relationship, but if it wasn’t easy while I was growing up, it’s hardly going to be any easier for me now, is it?"
However, the ‘Stay With Me’ hitmaker will be "happy" whether he finds someone to settle down with in the future or not.
He added: "I want to be healthy and I want to live as long as possible. I want kids, and I want to open a florist. If a boyfriend comes into that mix somewhere, I’ll be happy. But if it doesn’t happen, I’ll be fine with the flowers."
