Sally Carman didn’t feel ‘responsible enough’ for dog

Sally Carman didn’t get a dog until she was 41 because she didn’t feel "responsible enough".
The ‘Corrie’ star – who plays drug and alcohol addict Abi Franklin on the ITV soap – admits her pet pooch is "quite a healthy" canine, but she didn’t feel comfortable taking on control of an animal beforehand because she "didn’t have faith in herself".
She said: "The amount of times I’ve, perhaps, not had faith in myself.
"It took me until being 41 to get a dog because I didn’t know if I would be responsible enough. He’s still alive, he’s actually quite a healthy little dog.
"But that’s me with a wonderful life and all the support in the world."
Sally also admitted she has been "emotionally affected" by her ‘Corrie’ character, who is set for a tough few weeks in prison.
When asked how the emotional side of Abi affects Sally in real life, she replied: "It affects me a lot.
"I love playing those scenes and those storylines, because as a woman who has only ever had support, the amount of times I’ve messed up and made massive mistakes, which could’ve gone either way."
Sally admits the ‘Corrie’ fans were concerned about her character at first, but they are coming round to her now and enjoying her comical scenes with Kate Ford’s alter-ego Tracy Barlow.
Speaking on the ‘Justice’ podcast, she added: "A lot of the feedback on Twitter and that … I don’t look a lot because you don’t want to go down that road … we were doing a few scenes with Kate, and it’s slowly now coming through, ‘Oh they’re quite funny.’
"They just need time to adjust and realise that everything is going to be OK."
