Sally Ann Matthews’ son was targeted by a "vile" moped gang who tried to steal his bike.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress has blasted the attack as "shocking" but was pleased he was "fine" after the incident, which ended when a nearby Tube station guard interrupted the would-be muggers, who drove off.
She said: "A group of youths approached my son outside a train station and demanded his bike from him. It’s shocking and vile.
"He was fine, thankfully, and managed to get help from the train staff."
The ‘Corrie’ star – who plays Jenny Bradley in the ITV soap – revealed the police were called, but it is not known if they tracked down the gang.
Sally is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "We did involve the police, though, as something really needs to be done about these things that are happening on our streets."
This comes just a month after comedian Michael McIntyre was the victim of a smash-and-grab armed robbery while he was sat in his car alongside his youngest son.
Michael – who has two sons, Lucas, 13, and Oscar, 10, with his wife Kitty – had his £15,000 Rolex watch torn off his wrist in the attack.
Michael’s agent said: "There was an incident. Michael is fine."
One onlooker said: "Michael looked distraught and in a state of shock after what happened. It must have been terrifying. A woman who looked like his wife also seemed very upset and in tears.
"The police were on the scene very quickly."
