Saara Aalto wants Strictly Come Dancing same-sex couple spot

Saara Aalto wants to make ‘Strictly Comes Dancing’ history as part of the show’s first ever same-sex pairing.
The 32-year-old singer – who rose to fame as the runner up on ‘The X Factor’ in 2016 and has also enjoyed stints on ‘Eurovision’ and ‘Dancing On Ice’ – is ready to take on her next TV talent show, and she’s eyeing up the BBC’s Latin and ballroom show.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ on Wednesday (28.11.19), she said: "Well I’ve done ‘Eurovision’ already … ‘Strictly’. I’d love that."
When host Lorraine Kelly asked if she’d dance with a female pro, she replied: "Yes. Why not? That would be really good."
Lorraine added: "Let’s get on the phone to the boss and make it happen."
Saara’s comments come after ‘Strictly’ – which recently featured pro dancers Graziano Di Prima and Johannes Radebe performing together – confirmed they would be open to a same-sex celebrity pairing in the future.
However, she isn’t the only one who is up for the challenge, as Mark Feehily revealed he has already spoken to the BBC One show’s talent executive Stefania Aleksander – who is responsible for booking the contestants – about signing up for the competition.
The Westlife singer feels it would be "strange" to dance with a girl on the show.
He previously said: "It would [have] to be with a guy as it would feel strange for me to go with a girl. Well it wouldn’t feel strange but why wouldn’t I do it with a guy?"
Meanwhile, Mark’s bandmate Kian Egan previously spoke out in support of Graziano and Johannes after their performance together.
Responding to the BBC receiving 189 complaints after the dancers took to the floor earlier this month, he said: "There was some negativity towards it but it’s just two guys together. Australia already do it. Two-hundred complaints? That’s just the one person complaining repeatedly."
