Rylan Clark-Neal worries "every day" that he’ll be out of work.
The 29-year-old presenter – who shot into the limelight in 2012 when he took part in ‘The X Factor’ – has had a very successful television career over the past six years but has admitted he tries to take on as much work as he can because he’s terrified that he’ll break a leg and he won’t be able to make money for his family for a little while.
He said: "Of course I worry every single day – what if I break my leg and I can’t work or something? But fingers crossed things and touch wood, things are going well."
And, although he gets excited when new opportunities come his way, Rylan’s husband Dan Neal – who he married in 2015 – makes him question the job before he accepts.
He explained to the Metro newspaper: "He’s my voice of reason. I’m in a lucky position where a lot of work comes my way and I’ll go: ‘This is amazing, I’m going to do it.’ and Dan asks: ‘Do you really want to?’ And I’ll go: ‘Actually yeah you’re right!’ There’s still that child in me sometimes that wants to everything I’m offered."
Rylan has a jam-packed month coming up as he’s currently hosting ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ and his new water show ‘The Wave’ will hit screens next week.
He said of the new series: "I’ll be honest, at first I thought it’s another one of those shows on water with people bouncing around. But when I saw there was a real game element to it and it wasn’t just who goes down the slide the fastest, I loved it. The release said it was one of the most dangerous shows and I thought: ‘What a load of b******s. Then when I turned up, I was like: ‘F**k it’s dangerous!"
And, although Rylan would like to see celebrities take on the challenge, he thinks the show will have to stick to civilians because W wouldn’t be able to afford the insurance.
He added: "I’d like to meet a celebrity brave enough. I don’t know if we could afford the insurance. I’d love to see those cocky celebrities."
