Ruth Jones and James Corden have "nothing in the diary" about writing more ‘Gavin and Stacey’.
The pair delighted fans last year when they wrote a new Christmas special, 10 years after the sitcom last aired but the 53-year-old star insisted they still don’t have any plans to follow the one-off episode with anything else.
She said: "We all watched it round at James’s house, and when it ended James’s younger sister Ruth just screamed: ‘No! You can’t end it there!’
"But there’s nothing in the diary. We are both pretty busy."
However, the Welsh star admitted she and her co-writer spoke via Zoom numerous times during the lockdown period of the last few months – but neither of them felt inspired enough to be creative, which Ruth felt was a "waste".
She said: "James and I did Zoom a few times. But we didn’t do any writing. In fact, I remember us both saying how uncreative we both felt.
"And since then we’ve not even mentioned work, just talked about the family and how we’re feeling.
"It does seem like a waste doesn’t it, not to have spent all those lockdown hours writing? But I just couldn’t get into the groove."
And while there’s no ‘Gavin & Stacey’ on the cards, the pair do plan to write together again on a different project.
Ruth told Stella magazine: "It may not be ‘Gavin & Stacey’ but it’ll be something."
The 53-year-old star – who is married to her production partner David Peet – is "so proud" of her friend and collaborator, who has found huge success in the US as host of the ‘Late Late Show’, but she admitted she would never have wanted the same level of fame.
She said: "I’m so proud of James but I would never want what he has. It’s not me.
"But it is him and he does it brilliantly and all of us – him David, Julia [James’s wife] and all the children – love spending time together."
