Ruby Wax sustains ‘severe’ injuries after ‘accident’

Ruby Wax has sustained "severe injuries" after a "serious accident" involving a horse.
The 66-year-old comedienne has been forced to cancel her ‘How To Be Human’ shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, held at The Pleasance Grand, from August 18 until August 24 after she fell off the animal while on holiday and damaged her back.
Taking to her Twitter account, the actress shared a statement from her management which read: "Following a serious accident on holiday Ruby has suffered severe injuries to her back and is unable to perform in Edinburgh.
"Under doctor’s orders, she is taking time out to recover, but will get the show on the road again as soon as she can. Ruby is incredibly sorry that she will not be able to perform the run which she had been so looking forward to."
Ruby added that she is"hugely disappointed" that she can’t perform at the festival but that she appreciates that she needs "time to heal and recover" following the accident.
She explained: "I am hugely disappointed and so sorry to everyone who has bought tickets. My injuries are quite serious and I do need to take the time to heal and recover.
"I’ve been coming to the Edinburgh Fringe with my shows for over 30 years and always had the most amazing time."
The mental health campaigner later thanked her fans for being so understanding.
She said: "Thank you all for all your kind messages and thoughts – you are helping me recover faster x (sic)."
The day before the accident, Ruby shared a photograph of her cuddling up to a horse.
She wrote: "How has your week been? Have you used mindfulness successfully – tell us about a moment or exercise that particularly resonated. Let’s learn together."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the festival has said that refunds will be available from the point of purchase and any ticket holders will be contacted directly.
